Whoop's defiance: Whoop, the maker of screen-less fitness trackers, refused to disable its blood-pressure monitoring tool despite a request from the US FDA. The company argues its MG wrist band is not a medical product that requires regulatory oversight.

Tencent's upgrade: More than two dozen stock analysts raised their price target for Tencent, China's games and social internet leader. Its strong results reported this week bolstered expectations for sustained growth.

Deferred payments: Airbnb is letting guests in the US reserve some trips without paying upfront, a concession to increasingly cost-weary travelers who may be reluctant to book in advance.

Revalued

Artificial intelligence startup Cohere has raised $500 million in a new round, part of a bid to compete with larger tech firms in selling AI services to businesses and governments. The round values Cohere at $6.8 billion, up from $5.5 billion a year ago.
